Manchester United and Napoli are set to finalize the permanent transfer of Rasmus Hojlund starting next week. According to Fabrizio Romano, the plan is confirmed: the Red Devils will receive the £38 million buy option clause included in the loan agreement from last summer.
Napoli had no alternative but to trigger the clause once their UEFA Champions League qualification was secured. The club, along with Sporting Director Giovanni Manna, has consistently expressed their intention to make Hojlund’s move permanent since his early performances in the sky blue shirt impressed them.
The Italian side faces Bologna this evening, but with Inter Milan already securing the Scudetto last weekend, Napoli are now playing solely for second place.
As a result, Hojlund’s three-year stint at Old Trafford will come to an end—though he only actually played for United for two of those seasons. The Danish striker struggled to find consistent form as a Red, despite a run of scoring in six consecutive matches at one point.
Hojlund finished his debut campaign with 10 Premier League goals—a respectable tally for a young player adjusting to English football. However, he managed only four goals in 32 appearances in his sophomore season, prompting INEOS to bring in a replacement after the 2024/2025 season.
Benjamin Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig in a £73 million deal and has shown more promising signs than his predecessor in recent months.
