The Carlos Tartiere once again witnessed one of those strange afternoons where football seems to drift toward an inevitable ending while the stands resist accepting it. The goalless draw between Oviedo and Getafe left exactly the feeling the scoreboard reflected: a result that satisfies absolutely no one. Not a gray and constrained Getafe, nor a desperate Oviedo.
What hurts most for Oviedo fans is that this match felt far too similar to so many others this season. More of the same. A competitive team, organized at times, capable of staying alive—but condemned by small details, adverse decisions, specific mistakes, and a permanent sense that everything that can go wrong eventually does. Oviedo competed again. No one can say this team gives up or lowers its arms. But competing in LaLiga is not enough. You need decisiveness in the areas, personality in key moments, and most of all, the emotional management of matches that this team has never found. The 0-0 draw sums up the season: a lot of effort, very little reward.
And of course, VAR made an appearance again. That permanent guest that in Oviedo is already viewed with resignation rather than hope. The two red cards ended up conditioning the match and further increasing the feeling of constant grievance. It’s not about looking for excuses for relegation—Oviedo is being relegated for many reasons accumulated over months—but it’s impossible to ignore that in every doubtful action, the coin falls on the same side. In such a tight league, those details end up weighing tons. Oviedo fans have long felt they never got a decision that turned a match in their favor, that gave them an unexpected joy, or that compensated them even minimally for so many blows. On the contrary. Every review becomes a new emotional burden.
Tactically, the game offered little. Much fear of losing, few ideas, and too much tension. Getafe understood that a draw wasn’t bad. Oviedo wanted more out of necessity than conviction, but once again lacked clarity up front. The team reaches dangerous areas but almost never gives the impression of having the bite to decide high-stakes matches.
Now it’s time to face reality. It hurts to say this because the Tartiere has responded spectacularly all year. Even so, the Oviedismo has an obligation until the last day: maintain competitive dignity and enjoy, as much as possible, the final afternoons of Primera División. Because it took so much to return here, and no one knows how long the next comeback will take. But at the same time, the club must start building the future now. Without sentimentality. Without repeating mistakes. Planning well for next season in Segunda will be much more important than lamenting this one forever. Because the league forgives no improvisation, and Oviedo knows all too well how hard it is to get back up.
